Lidl EDI — become a Lidl Romania supplier with EDIconnect, live since 2014
Lidl mandates EDI for all new suppliers. EDIconnect connects you to ORDERS, DESADV (with mandatory SSCC) and INVOIC in EDIFACT format, GS1-validated, in 4–6 weeks. We integrate with any ERP — SAP, Charisma, Senior, WinMentor or custom.
EDI is not optional for a Lidl supplier
Lidl runs one of the strictest EDI standards in European retail. For each order, the chain requires DESADV with SSCC for every pallet, strictly structured, received before the truck reaches the warehouse. INVOIC must perfectly match DESADV and ORDERS — any discrepancy blocks payment. Without EDI configured and tested, the Lidl partnership cannot begin. EDIconnect provides the full flow pre-configured for the Lidl profile, plus Romanian technical support for any exception.
What Lidl requires from its EDI suppliers
Lidl publishes a detailed EDI manual updated periodically. EDIconnect always runs the latest version and handles updates when Lidl changes anything.

EDI messages Lidl requires
Lidl strictly validates message order and content. EDIconnect handles the structure; you handle only the business flow.
- ORDERS — Lidl order: Lidl sends ORDERS per regional warehouse. Contains warehouse GLN, items with GTIN, quantities, strict requested date (delivery window). Lands directly in your ERP.
- ORDRSP — Confirmation: You reply to ORDERS confirming or changing quantities. At Lidl, missing ORDRSP means implicit confirmation — but sending it explicitly helps reconciliation.
- DESADV — Dispatch advice with SSCC: The most important message for Lidl. For every pallet shipped you send SSCC + items per pallet. Physical labels must match exactly.
- INVOIC — Invoice: Electronic invoice referencing ORDERS and DESADV. Lidl auto-matches — any quantity discrepancy triggers clarification.
- RECADV — Receipt advice: Lidl sends RECADV with quantities actually received. EDIconnect auto-compares with DESADV and flags differences.
- INVRPT — Stock report (VMI): For VMI suppliers, Lidl can send INVRPT periodically. EDIconnect uses it to propose automatic replenishment orders.
Why EDI and not just the Lidl portal
Lidl uses portals for commercial and extra-operational documents. But the order flow runs 100% EDI — not optional. Any new Lidl supplier must be EDI-ready before first delivery. EDIconnect gets you there fast, with the conformance test done together with the Lidl team.
How you connect to Lidl via EDIconnect
Lidl has a more rigorous EDI certification process than most chains. EDIconnect has been through it with dozens of suppliers — we know exactly which questions come up, which tests are run, what documents their IT team requires.
- Kick-off + Lidl EDI manual (Week 1) — You receive the latest Lidl EDI manual version. EDIconnect translates it into concrete requirements for your ERP.
- Technical setup and mapping (Week 2–3) — Connect to the agreed EDI channel (VAN or AS2 / SFTP), map ORDERS → ERP, DESADV ← WMS, INVOIC ← accounting. Configure GS1-128 labels.
- Lidl conformance test (Week 4) — Lidl sends test scenarios. We send DESADVs and test INVOICs, receive feedback, fix. 1–2 iterations.
- Certification + UAT (Week 5) — Lidl confirms conformance. You perform a real UAT delivery, with real GS1-128 labels on pallets.
- Go-live (Week 6–7) — Switch to production. EDIconnect monitors 100% of messages for the first 30 days and escalates any exception directly.
Typical Lidl EDI problems
- Problem: DESADV rejected for inconsistent SSCC between physical label and message Solution: EDIconnect generates the SSCC, prints it on the GS1-128 label and includes it in the DESADV — one source, zero divergence.
- Problem: Penalties for delivery outside the time window Solution: ORDERS lands in the ERP with explicit delivery window; your planning sees it immediately and alerts on delay risk.
- Problem: INVOIC rejected for quantity difference vs DESADV Solution: INVOIC is generated from the confirmed DESADV, not the initial order. Match with Lidl is 100% automatic.
- Problem: Lidl EDI manual updates that break your integration Solution: EDIconnect monitors changes and applies updates centrally. You re-implement nothing.
- Problem: High order volume → overloaded operator Solution: Operator only sees exceptions (out-of-stock, GS1 errors, returns). Standard flow runs with zero human intervention.
FAQ
- Can I become a Lidl supplier without EDI?
- Practically, no. Lidl mandates EDI as a pre-onboarding requirement for any new supplier with operational volume. Very rare exceptions exist for micro non-merchandise service suppliers.
- How long does Lidl EDI certification take?
- Typically 5–7 weeks from kick-off, of which the conformance test with the Lidl team takes 1–2 weeks. EDIconnect accelerates your side — the rest depends on Lidl UAT slot availability.
- What does SSCC on the label mean and why is it so important?
- SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code) is a unique 18-digit code identifying each shipped pallet. Lidl scans the SSCC at receipt and matches it with the electronic DESADV. If physical SSCC ≠ DESADV SSCC, the pallet is not accepted — with direct penalty impact.
- Does EDIconnect print the GS1-128 labels or do I do it separately?
- EDIconnect generates the labels directly from WMS or ERP, ready to print on standard printers (Zebra, TSC etc.). Sync with the electronic DESADV is automatic — no divergence risk.
- Does EDIconnect work with Charisma or WinMentor for Lidl?
- Yes. We have validated connectors for both. For Lidl, the critical part is DESADV + GS1-128 labels; the EDIconnect connector on top of the ERP handles this automatically.
- Does Lidl also require ANAF e-Invoice?
- The EDI INVOIC sent to Lidl contains all data needed for ANAF e-Invoice. EDIconnect generates both simultaneously — one effort, two destinations.
- What does Lidl EDI cost via EDIconnect?
- Azuvio EDI plan starts at €12/month/user. Initial implementation depends on complexity (ERP, volume, labelling). In most cases payback is under 6 months from operator savings + zero penalties alone.
