Saga Software — forgot password, how to recover it? (2026 guide)
You forgot your Saga password and cannot log in. Here are the 3 legal solutions, in our recommended order of priority.

The typical scenario
Friday at 18:00. You need to issue an urgent invoice. Saga asks for the password and you don't remember it. Or: you have taken over the administration of a company, the former accountant is no longer reachable, and the Saga database is locked with a password.
Here are the 3 solutions, ordered by legality and safety.
Solution 1 — Use another administrator's password
Saga allows multiple users. If another colleague or the partner/associate has an active administrator account:
Step 1: Ask them to log in with their admin account.
Step 2: In Saga, go to the menu Service → Utilizatori (Users) → Modificare (Edit) → select your username → reset the password.
Step 3: Log in with the new password and change it immediately.
This is the fastest and most compliant solution. It works in 90% of cases.
Solution 2 — Contact official Saga support
If you are the only user (or all admins have forgotten the password), the only legal solution is Saga support.
Steps:
1. Contact Saga Software support: see Saga Software contact (phone, email, form).
2. Provide: company name, Tax ID (CUI), Saga contract (or the latest invoice), and proof that you are the legal administrator (ID card + company authorization).
3. Support will send you a reset procedure — usually a dedicated tool + a unique code generated for your specific database.
Cost: If you have an active subscription, it is free. If you do not have a support contract, fees range between 50-150 EUR.
Duration: 1-3 business days. For emergencies, request priority (which may cost extra).
Solution 3 — Your accountant has a backup
If your accounting firm keeps a copy of the Saga database (a frequent case — see the article "How to back up the Saga database correctly"), they may have an older version with a password you still know.
Trade-off: You will lose data entered after that specific backup. If the backup is from 2 weeks ago, you will have to re-enter the invoices from the last 2 weeks.
What NOT to do
❌ DO NOT install "Saga password crack" tools from the internet. 99% of them are malware that will: encrypt your database (ransomware), steal client data (selling it on the dark web), or install a backdoor.
❌ DO NOT directly edit the `.dbf` files of the database unless you are an official Saga developer. You will corrupt the structure and lose everything.
❌ DO NOT use pirated versions of Saga that bypass authentication. It is illegal + you won't receive legislative updates → leading to incorrect filings to ANAF (the Romanian tax authority) → resulting in fines.
How to avoid this problem in the future
1. Password Manager — use 1Password, Bitwarden, or Dashlane. Save your Saga password and access it from any device.
2. Multiple Admins — never have just one admin account. A minimum of 2 people should have administrative access (you + a partner/accountant).
3. Offline Password Backup — print the admin passwords on paper and put them in a safe. It sounds old-school, but it works.
4. Monthly Access Audit — check who has an account, what permissions they have, and their last login. Saga has a log in the Service menu.
Conclusion
Forgotten password = solution in 1-3 days through official Saga support. Never use third-party tools. Long-term: password manager + minimum 2 admins + backups. See also "How to back up the Saga database" for the full resilience of your system.
