Context: SAF-T D406 is mandatory monthly for all Romanian companies
Starting in 2025, all Romanian legal entities must submit the D406 SAF-T (Standard Audit File for Tax) monthly by the 25th of the following month. ANAF (the Romanian tax authority) runs validation + anomaly analysis on the XML files.
What NextUp provides out-of-the-box
XML D406 Generation for the selected month including: header, master files (customers, suppliers, items, accounts), transactions (accounting entries with VAT details), payments, fixed assets, and inventory.
Schema Validation: NextUp performs syntactic validation before export.
What NextUp does NOT handle natively
1. Mapping dimensions → ANAF analytics: if you use custom dimensions (cost centers, projects, locations) in NextUp, they must be manually mapped to standard ANAF analytical codes.
2. Cross-module reconciliation: ANAF compares D406 with D300 (VAT return) + D394 (local sales/purchase list) + e-Factura. Discrepancies trigger audits. NextUp does not perform pre-submission cross-checks.
3. ANAF semantic validation: similar to e-Factura, there are 30+ semantic rules applied over the schema (amounts, periods, accounts).
4. Audit trail for tax controls: ANAF requires a drill-down from D406 to accounting entries + source documents. NextUp holds the data, but not as a pre-assembled package.
The cost of manual effort
Typical SME/Mid-market company (30-60 users): a head accountant + 1 assistant invest 20-28h/month for: dimension mapping, cross-checking D300/D394/e-Factura, fixing errors, and assembling the audit package.
The Solution: Smart Layer SAF-T Reconciler
1. Automated Mapping: one-time configuration of NextUp dimensions → ANAF analytics. Reused monthly.
2. Pre-submission Cross-check: D406 vs D300 vs D394 vs e-Factura. Returns discrepancies + fix suggestions.
3. Semantic Validator: 30+ ANAF-specific rules applied over the schema.
4. Pre-assembled Audit Package: D406 + drill-down + source documents, ready for ANAF inspections.
Result: monthly effort reduced from 24h to 3h (-87%), significantly lowering audit risks.
