Why digitalization is not an IT project
Digitalization is a business project, not an IT one. The goal isn't to own software, but to achieve visibility, control, and speed.
Step 1: Operational audit (Week 1)
Before choosing any tool, answer: Where are we losing time? Where are we losing money? Where do we lack visibility? Map your critical processes: sales → procurement → inventory → delivery → invoicing → collections.
Step 2: Prioritization (Weeks 1-2)
Don't digitalize everything at once. Choose 2-3 processes with the highest impact: usually cash flow, inventory, and sales. The 80/20 rule applies perfectly here.
Step 3: Choosing the platform (Week 2)
Essential criteria: setup time (days, not months), modularity (pay for what you use), integrations (connects to your existing stack), mobility (works on mobile devices).
Step 4: Setup and data import (Weeks 2-3)
With a modern platform, setup takes 1-3 days. Importing data from Excel, CSV, or other systems is done automatically with built-in validation and cleaning.
Step 5: Team training (Weeks 3-4)
The most important step. Without adoption, any software is useless. Organize short (30 min) departmental sessions rather than 8-hour marathon trainings.
Step 6: Monitoring and optimization (Month 2+)
After the first month, analyze: Who is using the platform? Which features are being ignored? Where are the remaining gaps? Iterate weekly.
Realistic results
Week 1: real-time visibility into cash flow and inventory
Month 1: 40% reduction in reporting time
Month 3: positive ROI, automated processes
Month 6: full transformation, data-driven strategic decisions
